Just Chance

Time after time;
no chance it is less relentless than my own pulse,
and no relentlessness more chancy than its push.
Chance and time run parallel in one track
with no crossroads,
and no u turns.

It is the creepiness with which it creeps,
slow, yet graceless,
silent, yet wanton,
just a hint of malice glimpsed in yellowed eyes.
Chance and time run parallel in one track
but normal in another
and less able to correspond.

It is the last spring some ever see:
just before the awards and ceremonies
and applause rip their hearts out,
the last spring they see:
a death mask borrowed from universal,
a trick of the lights,
a computer generated claw.
Chance and time run parallel in one track.
It’s when they click
it’s a train wreck.
